Springtime Wildlife around Garstang (Walk G1)

Wyre Way Challenge Day 1 (Walk G2)

Length: 13.5 miles Cost: £10

From St. Michael’s we take transport to Knott End. We follow the riverbank towards Out Rawcliffe then depart from the river and cross through farmland to St. Michael’s.

A chance to try Nordic walking. It is a full body workout using Nordic poles and uses 90% of the body’s muscles and burns 46% more calories than walking without poles.

A circular walk using footpaths, towpath and fields including a “flight of 39 steps from the river up to the Rennie aqueduct to Look at transport connections across the Wyre.

Rivers, Churches and Meadows of the Fylde (Walk G9)

Area: St Michael’s Grade: Moderate Length: 7.5 miles Cost: £4.50 / £3.50

The walk starts in St. Michaels-on-Wyre, follows rarely used footpaths and passes through the picturesque village of Churchtown with its ‘Cathedral of the Fylde’.

Bluebell Walk (Walk G10)

Time: 11am – 12pm

Where: Colder Vale Village Green (Nr bridge, next to Mitt), PR3 1SQ Grade: Moderate

Length: Approx. 2 miles Cost: Free A short walk through a beautiful bluebell wood, a short steep climb to St John’s Church and then an easy country walk along farm tracks back to the Village Hall for afternoon tea (extra charge). No need to book.

Wyre Way Challenge Day 3 (Walk G11)

Area: Abbeystead Grade: Hard

Length: Approx. 10.5 miles Cost: £4.50 From Abbeystead we take transport to Dolphinholme. We follow the river into Abbeystead, then to Tarnbrook, over the Forest of Bowland moorland to Marshaw, returning to Abbeystead.

Glasson Dock & Cockersands Abbey (Walk G12)

Time: 9:30am – 1pm

Area: Glasson Dock Grade: Moderate

Length: Approx. 6.5 miles Cost: £3.50 / £2.50

A circular walk to the coast via the canal. Lanes and fields. Passing Cockersands Abbey along the Lancashire Coastal Path beside the Lune Estuary.

Over-Wyre Circular (Walk G13)

A flat circular walk, taking in coast, riverside and farmland.

Canal and Country (Walk G14)

A circular walk following the Lancaster Canal by way of the marinas, then across pastures to Kirkland and returning along the river Wyre.

Millennium Green Family Event (Walk G15)

Abbeystead Circular (Walk G16)

A circular walk encompassing the River Wyre passing through woodland and pastures using footpaths that are seldom used taking in the Shepherds Church and returning via Lower Lee.

Nordic Walking – Novice Walk (Walk G17)

Time: 10am – 12pm

Area: Garstang Grade: Easy

Length: 3 – 3.5 miles Cost: £3.50 / £2.50

A 3-3.5 mile circular Nordic walk from Garstang. Open to all Nordic walkers but aimed at novice Nordic walkers. A chance to practice your technique on good paths. Poles can be provided.

Winmarleigh – the little ullage with a big history (Walk G19)

A walk including a visit to Winmarleigh Halt and St Luke’s Church to Learn about their history. Refreshments (extra charge) will be available in the church.

Garstang Ramblers (Walk G20)

Wednesday is Bleasdale Day with most events being based around the Bleasdale Parish Hall. Come for the day and enjoy a variety of events. Refreshments served by festival volunteers will be available (extra charge) in the Parish Hall. after each watt? or activity and toilets are available.

Hidden Wildlife of Bleasdale (Walk G21)

A walk around the Bleasdale estate in search of upland farm wildlife.

Bleasdale Skyline (Walk G22)

Time: 9am-3-4pm

Area: Bleasdale Grade: Very Hard

Length: Approx. 12 miles Cost: £4.50 / £3.50 From the Parish Hall this walk ascends to Parlick, follows the skyline along the felts (with impressive views on a clear day) before gradually descending and returning to Bleasdale.

Bleasdale and Beyond (Walk G23)

Area: Bleasdale Grade: Moderate Length: Approx. 10 miles Cost: £4.50 / £3.50 A circular wait? from Bleasdale, encompassing farmlands, Lanes and footpaths, taking in Beacon Felt, the Brock Valley, Cobble Hey and the Bleasdale Estate.

Navigation Day 1 – Basic Map Reading (Walk G24)

Length: 3 miles

Cost: £5 or £10 for both days

An introduction to the skills required to be able to navigate with a map and compass. A short walk using a map and compass wilt be undertaken to use the skills gained.

Bleasdale – People and Places (Walk G25)

A walk encompassing St Eadmer’s Church, Bleasdale Bronze Age Circle and surrounding area exploring the lives of the people during the early twentieth century.

A walk around Abbeystead Looking at flora and fauna, on roads, farm tracks and through woodland.

Navigation Day 2 – Navigation with Map and Compass (Walk G27)

Time: 10am – 4pm

Area: Bleasdale Grade: Moderate

Length: Approx. 4 miles Cost: £10 for both days Further development of the skills needed to navigate with map and compass, plotting a route and putting it all into practice. Note: this event is only available if you have completed Day 1.

Dunop Valley Ramble and Tramper Trek (Walk G28)

Time: 11am – 2pm

Area: Dunsop Valley Grade: Moderate

Length: 6 miles Cost: £3.50 / £2.50

Explore the Dunsop Valley deep in the Forest of Bowland either on foot or by tramper. Booking essential for tramper if required.

Grisedale Valley and Harrisend Moorland (Walk G29)

Time: 10am – 3:30pm approx.

A hard nine mile walk on paths, fields and open heather moorland. Some short sections on road.

Meander to Fairsnape Fell (Walk G30)

Time: 12pm – 3pm

A figure of eight walk up steep slopes to Fairsnape and back.

Sullom Evening Walk (Walk G31)

Time: 6:45pm -9:30pm

Area: Calder Vale Grade: Moderate

Length: Approx. 4.25 miles Cost: £3.50 / £2.50

Evening walk from Calder Vote to the trig point on Sullom, to which there is normally no public access. Hopefully there will be a spectacular sunset. Some steep ascents and descents.

A full day circular walk over fields and moorland between Scorton and Dolphinholme.

Wyresdale and Dolphinholme. -Farmsteads and Fiddlesticks (Walk G33)

Area: Dolphinholme. Grade: Moderate

Length: 6 miles Cost: £4.50 / £3.50

A walk to the Shepherds Church (with a short stop for tea cakes and music) visiting farms associated with the Winders family of fiddle players.

River Catchment Ramble (Walk G34)

Area: Catterall Grade: Moderate Length: Approx. 3-4 miles Cost: £3.50/£2.50 A riverside walk with the River Wyre Catchment Partnership team.

Nordic Walking Adventure Walk (Walk G35)

Time: 10am – 2pm approx.

Length: 7 miles Cost: £3.50 / £2.50

A 7 mile circular Nordic walk for experienced Nordic walkers. A variety of paths, tracks, fields and Lanes including a climb over Nicky Nook and along Grisedale.

Nicky Nook Challenge Tramper Trek (Walk G36)

Length: 6 miles Cost: £4.50 / £3.50

Join our tramper trek, where we attempt to go where you never dreamed possible – up Nicky Nook (weather permitting). Walkers welcome to join us too. You can book one of our trampers or bring your own.

Claughton Estate Walk (Walk G39)

Time: 10am -12:30pm

Area: Claughton Grade: Easy

Length: Approx. 1-2 miles Cost: £3.50/£2.50

This is a special walk with the owners of the estate taking a look at its historical landscape including a visit to lovely bluebell woodland which is also a heronry. If you would like to join us on this walk don’t forget to bring your binoculars as the herons (if present) are perched at the very tops of the trees!

Rivers and Pastures (Walk G40)

Time: 10am – 4:30pm approx.

Area: Claughton Grade: Hard Length: 10 miles Cost: £4.50 / £3.50 The walk heads across the farmland south of Cobble Hey Farm to join the beautiful River Brock valley. Continuing along the river, upstream, the walk passes the sites of two former mills and the Brock Bottom picnic site and eventually leaves the Brock valley to return across the pasture lands of the Bleasdale Estate to Cobble Hey.

Cobble Hey Round (Walk G41)

Time: 10:30am – 1:30pm

Area: Cobble Hey Grade: Moderate

Length: Approx. 4-5 miles Cost: £3.50/ £2.50

A wander around Cobble Hey along tracks and across fields with stunning views and hopefully plenty of wildlife including Lapwings.

Of Roman Legions and Pendle Witches (Walk G44)

Area: Dunsop Bridge

Grade: Hard / Very Hard

Length: 14 miles Cost: £4.50 / £3.50

The walk skirts to the East of the Bowland Fells before picking up the Roman road up to the head of Whitendale, then following the River Dunsop back to Dunsop Bridge.

Bluebell Walk (Walk G45)

Time: 11am – 12pm

Where: Calder Vale Village Green, PR3 15Q Grade: Moderate

Length: Approx. 2 miles Cost: Free A short walk through a beautiful Bluebell wood, a short steep climb to St John’s Church and then an easy country walk along farm tracks back to the Village Hall for afternoon tea (extra charge). No need to book.

Poulton and Carleton Countryside Ramble (Walk G46)

Time: 1:30pm – 4:30pm

Area: Poulton Grade: Easy

Length: Approx. 5 miles Cost: £3.50 / £2.50 From the quaint market town of Poulton-le-Fylde we use public footpaths to cross fields and a golf course to visit Little Carleton and Great Carleton before arriving back at the start.

Of Fallen Airmen and Lancashire Gothic writing (Walk G47)

Time: 2pm – 4pm

Area: Langden Valley Grade: Moderate Length: Approx. 3.5 miles Cost: £3.50/£2.50

A walk on along the floor of the Langden Valley, visiting memorials erected to the memory of airmen who lost their lives in crashes. We shall also explore the valley’s connection with Andrew Michael Hurley’s 2017 novel “Devil’s Day” which is set in the area.
